B.Sc. University of Illinois Chicago

A native of the Chi, Abdel got his bachelor’s and PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Afterwards, he did his postdoc at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Purdue University where he got the NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Biology. An evolutionary ecologist by trade, he focuses on the interplay between ecology and evolution shaping natural systems. He likes being outdoors, dancing in the moonlight, and is actually made up of three kids (goats) standing on each other’s shoulders.

Postdoctoral Researchers and Fellows

Mario A. Cerón-Romero

M.S. Universidad de Puerto Rico, Río Piedras

B.Sc. Universidad del Valle Colombia

Mario is a phylogeneticist and bioinformatician from Colombia. He did his Master’s in Puerto Rico and his PH.d. in Massachusetts. After, he did a postdoc with Katy D. Heath at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Now, he is continuing his postdoctoral work at Case Western Reserve University. He is widely interested in the evolution of genomes and genomic architecture. He also a melómano that enjoys collecting and listening to music and dancing to salsa.

Gideon Deme Gywa

PhD: University of Chinese Academy of Sciences/Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China
MSc: University of Abuja, Abuja, Nigeria
BSc: University of Abuja, Abuja, Nigeria

As an ecologist, I am interested the patterns and processes shaping species, population, and community assemblage of organisms to influence biodiversity trends and patterns. In doing myresearch, I mostly use quantitative approaches to understand the complexities of how environmental disturbances, driven by anthropogenic pressures, impact the adaptation and survival of species across diverse ecosystems.
