ArcGIS — The Dumbest Program…Ever

My graduate studies involve a good deal of biogeography. I’m studying the patterns of two bird families which exist in the New World and the Old World separately. Therefore, as the New World and Old World are not exactly similar in size and shape, it would be useful to correct for these factors. So what program should a person interested in this work turn to? ArcGIS, of course. It’s a fantastically useful program to analyze landscapes and other spatial factors. Or at least would be if it weren’t so ridiculously complex and unintuitive. Even R, a programming language, makes a hell of a lot more sense than this. I really question the person who developed this software.
